Get to know Tara, our latest Dog of the Month. This feature was offered as a reward during our What’s Eating Aotearoa PledgeMe campaign. Thank you to Tara’s human for their support!

Dog name: Tara

Age: Two

Breed: Mostly Border Collie and a little bit Catahoula Leopard dog

If dog of the month wasn’t a reward for our PledgeMe campaign, give us the pitch on why your dog would be dog of the month anyway: Tara should be dog of the month because of all the joy she brings to the humans who love her – even the random people on park benches that she befriends as if she’s known them forever. But most of all, she should be dog of the month because she really wouldn’t care if she were dog of the month or not…

The photo your dog would use for a social media or Tinder profile photo: Social media/Tinder also not her thing…

The photo your dog would ask to be taken down if you shared it on social media: A photo of her post swim with her “serious face” (I was having so much fun and now I’m just wet…)

What is your dog’s idea of happiness? (stolen from Proust questionnaire) Water. Swimming. Especially after a stick at the beach (a stream or muddy puddle will also do).

A photo of your dog in the place it is the happiest:

If you’ve ever dressed your dog for Halloween, Christmas or any seasonal occasion, please tell us why you chose the costume you did: Never dressed her up. Not her thing (unless putting on her life jacket counts?)

Would you say your dog was charismatic or glamorous? (stolen from Dichotomies): Charismatic

Thunder or lightning? (also stolen from Dichotomies): Lightning

What is your dog’s best quality? Seeing every human as a potential friend

What is your dog’s worst quality? Seeing every cat as a potential threat

What food would your dog want to see ranked by The Spinoff? Sardines, please.

Does your dog have a job? Tara is a volunteer for walk-a-dog day at my work. A lot of people think Border Collies want to work with sheep, but Tara couldn’t think of a better job in the world than taking people for a walk and bringing a little happiness to their day.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our What’s Eating Aotearoa PledgeMe campaign. What’s Eating Aotearoa is a reader-funded editorial project from The Spinoff focused on food and how it shapes this country.

Keep going!
